New Jersey: Well-respected fertility clinic nurse Melanie McGuire, stands accused of murdering her husband, William, in 2004. Prosecutors allege that McGuire, 34, shot him to death, sliced his body into four pieces with a power saw and then dumped his remains in the Chesapeake Bay. Although McGuire maintains her innocence, the jury which consist of a 9-woman and 3-man panel, decides otherwise and finds Melanie McGuire GUILTY of murdering husband.
The jury finds Melanie McGuire guilty of first degree murder and desecrating human remains, guilty of perjury for lying to a family court judge about her husband’s whereabouts after he disappeared and also convicted her of unlawful possession of a weapon. She faces 30 years to life in prison on the murder charge alone when she is sentenced July 13. Her bond was immediately revoked after the verdict. Her defense attorneys have suggested the victim’s slaying was related to gambling debts and is not done by Melanie McGuire.
