Sameer Mishra of Lafeyette, Indiana wins the Scripps National Spelling Bee 2008. He spelled the winning word, “guerdon”, without much stress. Guerdon means “something that one has earned or gained”.
Sameer Mishra won $35,000 in cash plus more than $5,000 in other prizes in the 81 years of the championship. Sameer Mishra is only 13 years old, and this is his fourth year in the competition. Sameer Mishra’s best previous finish was 14th back in 2006.
