If you think Yang Peiyi looks cute when she sang “Ode to the Motherland” during the Beijing 2008 Olympics Ceremony, then be very disappointed as the one you saw isnt her at all. Yang Peiyi was prevented and robbed of her moment of glory as she’s considered not cute nor flawless enough to appear by the ceremony’s chief music director, Chen Qigang.

This is what he said:

“The main consideration was the national interest. The child on the screen should be flawless in image, in her internal feelings, and in her expression.”

What does he mean by “flawless”. Is there a perfect person in this world? If there is, point me to that person. So what if Yang Peiyi had braces and not cute-looking. She looks cute to me. Yang Peiyi is just like every normal 7 year old you see on the streets.

The little girl in Red whom the whole world witnessed is actually 9 year-old Lin Miaoke. She was lip-syncing to the whole song supposedly sang by Yang Peiyi. On the cute-ness factor, ok, so, Lin Miaoke got centerstage. But it was at the expense of Yang Peiyi, the real talent behind this whole Beijing 2008 Opening Ceremony Fiasco
